A wonderful Sunday to you. May it be full to the brim with post-apocalyptic car booting and free from Midsomer Murders repeats on the television. We have an audition of sorts, although this one is not a stomach churning, leg warmer-clad “Fame” style affair, nor under the cold glare of the SuperCowell destroyer, but for the glorious Amazing Radio. Essentially, we require a vote or several, so if you’d be kind enough to click here (no signup or registration needed) and place your bets on the “Further Still” horse (metaphorically speaking), that’d be most excellent. The winner gets playlisted and wins a Sega Mega Drive (well, perhaps not the second bit). Thankers.

Aloha funsters. Much like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, we are at the ‘crossroads’ of January. It’s been a lovely start. We were recently asked to pick some tracks for Skeletory, which apart from sounding like a great fusion of our earlier bone pun and a cosy conservatory, is also a splendid music hub online. We always love a good excuse to play Roy Orbison, so treat yourself to a nice earful of warm Roy here.

Additionally, the kind folkers at Hype Machine have featured our “Creatures” on their January playlist, alongside the rather wonderful CHVRCHES & Empress Of. We’re at 16.22 but all of it is golden. Pour into your earholes (serving suggestion)…

A digital crumb of biscuit. A last tipple of mulled topple. SAD CRACKER ENDS.

It can only mean one thing…Happy January to you and yours! What a fine transition it has been as well. We finished ahead of The xx and Grimes to be XI (that’s eleven by the way) in Hype Machine and Tom Robinson’s delightful unveiling of the most blogged acts in the UK on BBC6Music; our Christmas cover has reached over 12,000 plays on SoundCloud, plus we owe Azealia Banks an apology too for pinching her It’s My Kind Of Scene crown. Sorry about that. To contribute to this, we also played at being guest editors for Right Chord Music, picking some of the finest tunes from 2012, including tracks by Us Baby Bear Bones and Trust. Ah, we remember it like it was yesterday…

Ultimately though, it’s about when a man and woman love each other very…erm, or maybe some new songs, yes? Fret not chumlings, they’re on their way…

…and so the bell tolls.

Romanticised supermarket advertisements promise gilded, glistening turkey-scapes of wonder. Angry brigades cry out in tinsel-covered furore over stolen indie classics being re-contextualised for the festive season. A whole pack of mince pies gets consumed during the John Lewis advert and effs are sent out into the ether for making us into a blubsome, sentimental shipwreck.

Let’s simplify things and go back to 1944. Taken from the musical Meet Me in St. Louis, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” is sung by Judy Garland’s character to her distressed younger sister upon learning that their family may be forced to move out of their home. A performance by Garland to World War II troops followed, moving many to tears.

So, here’s our take on this popular yuletide chanson, complete with heated Coronation Street samples…

Thankyules also to all the folks who have come along to our live offerings this year and to those lovely chums who have featured our music on their blogs, helping us to be one of the 15 acts of “The Blog Sound of 2013 poll” long list. Fancy. Speaking of which, have a read of these festive scribblings from Brighton Source, It’s My Kind Of Scene, Breaking More Waves, Brighton Music Blog, The DaDaDa, Music Broke My Bones, New Statesman and The Von Pip Express - and of course, have yourself a merry little Christmas now…

Available exclusively from Southsea’s own fantastical pie and music hub, Pie & Vinyl. No purple, spandex or gold symbols in sight though, just glorious plastic wheels of sound, avec buildings from the local area. They are £10 each. That also gets you a signature and a lovely Curxes stamp on the reverse. Spiffing.

Elsewhere, we have been pleased to receive some wheely (groan) nice comments about our recent animated video for “Spectre”. We digitally salute you/kiss your faces through the Internet. Not only that, but we’ll be joining Mute’s own treasure Polly Scattergood on her Portsmouth and Brighton dates.
